Oprah, when is too much?
A friend of mine taped the Oprah Winfrey Show for me the other day. It happened to be about something that I've been kind of on the fence about. The show was about addiction to plastic surgery. Now I'm not on the fence about an addiction to plastic surgery, what I'm on the fence about is plastic surgery itself. We as a society have taken way too much for granted and plastic surgery is one of them along with abortion as a means of birth control. Fat people now have a way out; Gastric bypass surgery and skin removal surgery all done in the comfort of an operating room. I have had clients who have lost hundreds of pound of fat by exercising and eating sensibly and had to deal with large amounts of loose skin which looked worse than their fat they had lost. It usually takes up to two years for the skin to return to normal and even then it may not happen. So in that case I'm on the fence, because relying on surgery to look good is still bad. It is your fault you got fat and you need to start taking responsibility for what you have done and not rely on surgeons to fix it for you. If you are fat or obese it is time for you to seek therapy and support to help you overcome whatever is keeping you fat. Understand that fat is not the problem, fat is a symptom of the problem. In order to understand why you get fat you need to smarten up and get to the root of what's causing the problem.

Searching the classifieds.
I'm reading several newspapers today, one being CIN weekly, the one I have The askROCCO column in and I feel compelled to read through the classifieds. I used to always read the classifieds to find out what kind of puppies were for sale or antiques could be a bargain but this time my eyes were drawn to the "Exercise and Sports Equipment" section and not to my surprise there were three Total Gyms for sale right before my very eyes. The captions always get me, here's one of them verbatim: "TOTAL GYM As seen on TV, never used with optionals. $800" Here's something for a treadmill: "TREADMILL 3HP stable, like new, rarely used. bo" You're probably thinking, yea Rocco's off his fuckin rocker now. He's copying classifieds into his blog, he's definitely gone batty. The problem here is why did these people buy this shit in the first place. They never had any real intention on using it. Please, and I mean this from my heart, before you buy anything please consult me or another fitness professional before making that purchase. There are better ways to spend your money than buying something you'll never use and then feeling like an asshole everytime you see it down in the basement when you go for dog food.
Just because you have a credit card doesn't mean you have to use it to buy worthless shit. You can alsways e-mail me at: rocco@askrocco.com

Xenical to be sold over the counter. Holy Shit
Is it my imagination or has the FAT world gone totally crazy? This drug is not working for people who take it by prescription, prescribed by doctors, now it will be destributed by pharmicists who have to consult with the fat person before handing over the pills. Hmmm... call me stupid but who is the only people that are going to make out on this deal? The answer: not the fat people taking it, that's right, the pharmicists. Why do you think they lobbied so hard to get it reclassified. It's a desperate market and fat people will do anything that seems easy to lose the weight. Can we stop relying on pills and maybe get moving a little bit.

Surgery for fat kids. Come on now!
Stop. Please stop! O.K. I can see for the idiotic adults out there that are fat and think that surgery is the way to go may find it as a solution. Kids should never get fat, understand that people. Kids need to be running, jumping, wrestling and climbing trees. Where are the parents allowing this surgery to be performed. The parents are the reason the kids are fat in the first place. I have said this once and I'll say it again. If a child becomes obese the parents should be brought up on abuse charges. It is the responsibility of a parent to monitor a childs eating and activity. If a child does not have activity, find one for them. To let them get fat and then allow a surgeon to cut into them because you as a parent are too fucking lazy to be a parent is outright criminal. Put me in a room with these parents for one minute, pleeease.
